Living Water Saturating Earth with Heaven

“For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.” (Genesis 2:5-6)

    Water rising from the earth is a prophetic picture of Living Water saturating earth with Heaven.

    The image in Genesis is the pattern of Heaven we, as sons of God, release into the atmosphere. It is the tangible manifestation of Holy Spirit, and is what we so often call the ‘Glory of God’. Some translations use the word, “streams” in place of “mist”. Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38) Either way, the picture is the same; however, I am drawn to the word, “mist” because of its characteristics.
     A ‘mist’ is not a raging torrent, not a destructive force upon the earth. A mist fills the atmosphere, saturating and softening all it envelopes. There are wonderful fragrances and aromas that are rich and refreshing. Everything seems to come to life and grow. 

    To me this image speaks of the healing virtue of the Blood of the Lamb, and the mercy and grace and love God desires for the liberation of Creation from her awful bondage to sin and death.
     The Lord said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) He makes very clear the two opposing patterns that govern life–the earthly patterns that are filled with darkness (theft, murder, destruction), and the heavenly patterns that are filled with light (abundant life).

What patterns are you following?

     Make no mistake, what we resonate with on the inside is what we release into the world around us. As believers we are created and called to saturate atmosphere with Heaven revealing the glory of the Lord, which is the essence of who He is. In other words, we are to be a reflection of Him who is Light and Life and Love.

    He is our Healer, our Redeemer, our Deliverer. He is our Peace, and our Joy. He is our Provider and our Provision, our Strength, our Shield, our Shelter from every storm. He is our overwhelming Grace and Mercy. He is our All Consuming Love—He is our Lord.
     We are to be Him as our beautiful selves in this world–a reflection of His fullness in us and not a reflection of darkness around us.  What patterns are you following? As the Apostle Paul wrote,

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth)…” (Ephesians 5:8-9)

    My challenge to us all (myself included) is to “walk as children of light”. As we yield to the lordship of the Spirit and lean into Him to be filled with the ‘Pattern of Heaven’, the manifest fruit of His Presence, we saturate the atmosphere like ‘mist’, a heavenly mist that collapses the patterns of this world destroying every work of darkness.
     My encouragement to us all (myself included) is that we’ve been created and empowered for this. It’s who we are, and the fullness of Christ in us makes it not only possible–it makes it real.
